About Kay

Kay's love for creative, outdoor nature play first inspired her to try Tinkergarten with her young son. From the very first class, she knew the program was a perfect fit for her family!  in 2019, she left her full-time job to become a Tinkergarten Leader.

Prior to teaching Tinkergarten, Kay was a therapeutic horseback riding instructor and a Director of Volunteers in the non-profit sector.  Her experience includes working with children with a wide variety of physical, cognitive, and nuerodivergent challenges.

A native New Englander, Kay loves the change of seasons and being outdoors in all weather.  At home with her husband and her son, Kay creates hand-crafted greeting cards, homeschools, and enjoys baking and cooking.

What is Tinkergarten?

Tinkergarten classes are outdoor, play-based education classes for kids 18 months to 6 years old and a treasured adult. Both kids and adults learn and grow together in the best classroom of all—nature!

Designed by experts, loved by teachers, parents and kids, the Tinkergarten curriculum gets kids learning outside. Kids who participate get the physical and metal benefits of increased time outdoors and build a lasting connection to nature.

At Tinkergarten:

• Play is learning. Inspired and guided play is powerful learning.

• Learning is child-directed, adult-supported.

• Learning is fun, joyful, and full of wonder.

• Learning is social for children and adults.

• It’s always outside! Nature is the most inspiring, challenging, stimulating and refreshing classroom we could imagine.

• Teachers are coaches—here to guide the kids and the adults. If you are curious about how your child learns and what you can do to support them, your Tinkergarten teacher can help.

Skills that Matter

As they progress through the program, children develop a strong foundation in 8 essential skills that kids need to become creative, caring, and confident people who can thrive in a dynamic world.   It is at these early ages that children build the foundation for these elegant skills.
